Now in its fourth year Mills Hills has something for everyone with three routes around the beautiful South Pennines on the road and an additional 35 mile cyclocross route.. An area steeped in both its hills and its rich industrial heritage, Mills Hills takes you on a journey around the dark satanic mills and up on to the wild open moorland above them. All the routes were carefully designed by Emma Osenton from The Kinesis-Morvelo Project.
Route – There are three road options, a 30 mile, 50 mile and a 70 mile both including sections of stage two of the Tour de France with Cragg Vale, Ripponden Bank and Cock Hill along with a few of the other famous climbs of the area like Stocks Lane, the hill climb they all said was too steep!
There is also a 35 mile cyclocross option. If old school ‘cross is your thing then this ultra ‘cross distance is for you, with cobbled climbs, wild open moors, tracks, trails and gravel. (Don’t worry, we don’t mind if you ride MTB).
Enter – Entry is via British Cycling here. The cost is £20 or £25 on the day.
Bike: Road route – The route is challenging so a well maintained bike with low gearing and good brakes is advisable.
Cyclocross route – You can ride what ever bike you fancy – CX or MTB – and there’s only a small section of carrying: well, it wouldn’t be ‘cross if it didn’t have a bit of everything would it?
Nutrition: We’re kindly sponsored by Clifbar again with their super tasty bars and gels. We have pulled pork rolls and homemade flapjack along with hot drinks at the two feeds. There’s the finest artisan pies from The Porkery and CoffeeRun with a caffeine boost at the finish too.
When: Mills Hills takes place on Saturday 10th October 2015, with the first road riders getting underway at 8am. The cyclocross riders are off from 9am.
Where: The event HQ is Mytholmroyd Community Leisure Centre, Caldene Avenue, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 5AF – just half a mile East of Hebden Bridge off the A646
